What is Counselling?
Counselling falls under the umbrella term of ‘talking therapies’ allowing people to discuss their problems and any difficult feelings they encounter in a safe, confidential environment.
What can counselling help with?
Counselling can help you to explore the way you are thinking or feeling, maybe you are experiencing a specific problem or issue you are keen to resolve, or struggling with the pressures of modern day life, feeling overwhelmed, experiencing gloomy and anxious thoughts. Clients may choose to speak to me as a counsellor because they feel, at that time, they cannot speak to their partners, friends or family about such personal issues, or they may simply wish to speak to a professional with an objective viewpoint.
As a counsellor I do not tell you what to do - instead I encourage you to talk about what's bothering you, helping to uncover any root causes of distress and identify your specific ways of thinking. Counselling does not come as a set format and as such each session is tailored to the individual client.
At present I work with individuals, offering regular one-to-one appointments to provide an opportunity for you to react to and explore any emotions that arise in the counselling room.
How can Counselling help?
For many of my clients the fact that counselling offers a safe and confidential environment to speak in is all it takes. Counselling offers you the space and freedom to explore your own thoughts with an unbiased other. As your counsellor I may not give you concrete advice or a checklist of things to do to feel better, but help you uncover your own insight and understanding of your problems providing you with the tools which will help you to resolve them on your own.
